Grand Annecy: the shredding of vegetation at home extended in 2023

In 2023, the device of shredding green waste at home launched by the Grand Annecy will be extended to the whole agglomeration. In 2022, 344 tons of green waste were shredded via this scheme.

The shredding of plants at home, what does it consist of ?

The shredding of the plants allows to reduce in small pieces the green waste. This concerns leaves, small branches and other residues of pruning or pruning. Several conditions must be met to use this device in the agglomeration of Annecy:

Be present on the day of shredding

The plants must be grouped in a single point

To have a place of storage at the entrance of the property, at less than 5 meters from a path being accessible to a vehicle

Once shredded, the residues must be reused on site

It is necessary to live in a commune of Grand Annecy

Why go through home shredding ?

To resort to the grinding of the plants at home presents several advantages. This will allow you, for example, to avoid going back and forth to the waste disposal center. It is both a saving of time and money.

In addition, you will contribute to the reduction of the volume of waste collected by the waste disposal centers of the Grand Annecy. Finally, you will participate in the zero phyto approach, via composting or mulching.

Note that from 2024, the French will be obliged to sort bio-waste directly at the source.

344 tons of green waste shredded at home in 2022

In the year 2022, 232 households were registered to take advantage of the service. In all, 344 tons of plants were shredded directly at home. That means more than 44 semi-trailers that would have to transport this green waste to be treated. This saving allows to reduce the activity of the waste disposal centers of the Grand Annecy.

Especially since the one in Épagny Metz-Tessy will close its doors in the third quarter of 2023 for one year, a recycling center will be created.

A device extended to all of Greater Annecy

In 2023, the service of shredding plants at home will be extended to all municipalities of Greater Annecy. Until then, it only concerned 27 of them, including those on the shores of Lake Annecy. In parallel, the agglomeration has already planned to invest in new equipment to the tune of about 100,000 €.

Only the labor will be subcontracted due to the seasonal nature of the service.

There are two home shredding campaigns for green waste per year. The first one takes place in spring, between mid-March and mid-June. The second one takes place in the fall, from mid-September to mid-November. Note that it is only possible to take advantage of this service once a year and per household.

As for the days of grinding, they are communicated at the time of making the appointment.

The following plants are accepted for shredding at home:

• Branches of shrubs and trees
• Hedge trimming

The diameter must be between 1 and 15 centimeters, for a volume of 2 to 16 m³. The first hour is free if the volume of branches is between 2 and 8 m³. The second hour is charged at 25€ for a volume between 9 and 16 m³.

In case of non-respect of the rules, a fixed price of 100€ could be applied.
